Visit from Senator Manuel José Ossandón

On August 14, our Political Philosophy students had the opportunity to take part in a special meeting with Senator Manuel Ossandón

As part of the “El Senado en tu sala” (The Senate in Your Classroom) program.

The activity, held in the school’s new building, aimed to give students a closer look at how Parliament works and create a space for conversation and learning about democracy, citizenship, and participation.

During the meeting, topics included the history of Parliament, the process through which laws are passed or rejected, and the importance of understanding our role as citizens. Special emphasis was also placed on the value of listening, engaging in dialogue, and learning from those who may hold opinions or ideas different from our own.

The day began at 10:00 a.m. with a small coffee break, followed by an open and engaging conversation between the senator and our students, who had the opportunity to ask questions, share their reflections, and gain firsthand insight into some of the work carried out in the Senate.

“El Senado en tu sala” is an educational, non-partisan initiative that seeks to bring the work of Parliament closer to younger generations and promote opportunities for civic education.

This experience allowed our students to connect the topics explored in Political Philosophy with a real-life opportunity for dialogue, reinforcing the importance of participating, staying informed, and building a society based on respect and active listening.
