Early Years

Young students are at the heart of learning through playful and meaningful experiences that encourage curiosity, engagement and growth. A strong commitment to high-quality education supports the holistic development of every child.

Our curriculum

Our curriculum at Colegio Pedro de Valdivia Providencia is designed to give students the knowledge, critical thinking skills and confidence they need to become competent citizens who can understand, analyse and act safely and responsibly.

English (IEYC and Phonics)

Learn English by exploring and creating

Students develop English naturally and with confidence through the IEYC approach, where inquiry and thematic projects make learning meaningful from the start. A structured phonics programme builds strong phonological awareness and supports early reading and writing, while everyday opportunities to communicate, investigate and create help children enjoy the language and use it with purpose.

Verbal Language

Communicate with clarity and confidence

Students build strong communication skills in a stimulating environment that nurtures speaking, reading comprehension and early writing. Through stories, guided conversations and engaging activities, they expand vocabulary, strengthen active listening and develop the foundations for clear, confident and effective communication.

Arts & Music

Create, feel and express

Students bring their imagination to life through visual arts, singing, rhythm and movement in spaces designed to inspire creativity and self-expression. Through a wide range of artistic experiences, they develop sensitivity, confidence and emotional awareness while enjoying every opportunity to create, explore and express themselves freely.

Mathematical Thinking

Discover logic through playing

Young students explore numbers, shapes and patterns through hands-on, playful experiences that make early maths both engaging and meaningful. By playing, experimenting and solving simple challenges, they develop logical thinking, curiosity and problem-solving skills, building a strong mathematical foundation from an early age.

Experiments – Natural Environment

Explore the world with curiosity

Learners observe, experiment and ask questions as they discover the world around them. Through hands-on activities and active participation, they develop scientific curiosity, learn to investigate and begin to build critical thinking skills in a meaningful and engaging way.

Understanding the socio-cultural environment

Belong, respect and value the community

Students discover their local environment, traditions and culture in ways that help them build a strong sense of identity and belonging. Through meaningful experiences, they learn to value diversity, strengthen respectful relationships and develop a deeper understanding of the community and the world around them.

Social Emotional Learning (SEL)

Grow with empathy and self-awareness

Young students develop empathy, self-regulation and strong social skills through initiatives such as the Be Kind campaign. In a safe, supportive and trusting environment, they learn to understand and express their emotions, navigate conflict positively and build respectful, caring relationships with others.

Physical Education – Corporeality and Psychomotor Skills

Movement, coordination and confidence

Students develop coordination, balance and body awareness through games and psychomotor activities designed to support movement and discovery from an early age. As they play, explore and work together, they build confidence, strengthen healthy habits and nurture the physical and emotional wellbeing that helps them thrive every day.

A typical day at Early Years

Each day at CPV Providencia brings meaningful learning, exploration and new discoveries for every child. While daily routines may vary slightly between year groups, here is an example of what students can experience during a typical day in Early Years.

After school programme

After school programme

The After School Planet Earth programme will run in 2026 from 1pm to 6pm for Early Years students. It has been carefully designed to support the development of skills, attitudes and knowledge through engaging, play-based activities. The programme encourages children to explore, value and care for the natural world, while enjoying positive, stimulating and enriching experiences in a safe environment.

A dedicated and professional team supports the programme, including two Nursery Educators per group, a Learning Assistant, the Early Years Cycle Direction and the After School Coordinator, who knows the students well and oversees the programme to ensure its quality and effectiveness.
